I went to my first writers+alcohol event last night. Took me some time to get comfortable with the crowd and the place (even though I was in the zone the first time I went there with mixed, some-not-writers, friends) but I had a nice time. Learned some facts from the host about how long it should take for a book to be published. Although in my case there’s been lots of delays as my future publisher gets the company off the ground – and that’s to say nothing of my own mind-changing-after-submission. But hey, I’m finally at the point where I’m happy with the damn thing, and it’s much, much cooler now. Hopefully the climax I have will see print and be awesome enough for you all (sorry, “ya’ll”). Oh yes, and I left about 75-100 cards at the bar. That was nice of the bartender to let me do that. I know, kinda lazy, but with chronic shyness it’s the much more efficient way. Though I did meet a lovely young lady who thought my book sounded awesome, so I did hand out one. So that was a nice night, and I got something out of it.
Interesting! Was that a locally organized group of writers? Or a Yahoo meet-up or something?
It was an inner-city cultural-centre-area gathering organised online for a group I’m in (but haven’t been to before). They have a lot of people in a group at a bookstore in the area too. I don’t know what kind of bookstore it is – Literary, genre, mixed, or whatever – but it’s indie. Basically a facebook meetup group thing.
Also, if the girl is reading this, hi!
i’d take the alcohol over other writers.
